History majors don’t just study what has happened in the past. As a history major at 17cÆð²ÝºìÌÒ, you’ll acquire skills and knowledge that can prepare you for a variety of careers in fields including teaching, law, government service, writing, researching, genealogy, business and politics. Perhaps most importantly, however, you’ll achieve a better understanding of the world and its people.
Earning a history degree at 17cÆð²ÝºìÌÒ can also prepare you for graduate school. History graduates have been accepted into a variety of graduate programs, including law, business and medical, at institutions such as Carnegie Mellon University, Penn State University and the University of Pennsylvania.
Literature does more than prepare students for careers in a variety of fields; it equips learners with skills that are crucial to success in any endeavor. A traditional liberal arts major, 17cÆð²ÝºìÌÒ's Literature program offers students opportunities for self-knowledge and growth as they explore the ideas of great writers of past and present. Reading those works promotes development of high level communication skills while enhancing depth of knowledge across disciplines. Interpreting and deconstructing ideas helps students to shape their world-views while refining skills in logic, reasoning and conceptual analysis.
The Psych/MACC degree is designed for students who wish to become ethical professional counselors skilled in treating mental health and addiction disorders. The psychology major can be followed as a 3+3 curricular track leading to potential matriculation into the MACC program in the senior year.
Political Science isn’t just for students who aspire to work in government. Those seeking careers in law, business, journalism, teaching, or nonprofits benefit from understanding policy and politics. 17cÆð²ÝºìÌÒ students have an opportunity to earn college credit by spending a semester or summer in Washington, D.C., competing on the Mock Trial Team, serving as interns in a congressional office, government agency, major corporation, newspaper or news network, or agencies devoted to legal affairs, international relations, or business and economics.
Mathematics is one of 17cÆð²ÝºìÌÒ's highest paying and most sought after majors. Furthermore, math majors consistently score high on entrance exams for medical school and law school. Majoring in math will teach students critical thinking, and quantitative and analytical skills that are in high demand by employers.
17cÆð²ÝºìÌÒ's class sizes are capped at 24 for lower-level courses and are typically much lower in upper-level courses. Though content-heavy, the major is credit-light. At 17cÆð²ÝºìÌÒ, athletic training students benefit from these resources while gaining an education that combines hands-on experience, expert mentorship and a supportive community.
Theological study long has attempted to address the most profound questions of existence and the meaning of the human religious experience. Theology courses ask these questions with attention to the universally human and particular focus on the Judeo-Christian tradition. A major in theology prepares students for further work in academe or seminary and can serve to complement another major. A minor in the discipline provides students with greater knowledge of religious questions.
In the 17cÆð²ÝºìÌÒ tradition, theatre students learn the importance of diversity of thought, faiths and cultures. Students are challenged to shape and transform the world as ethical leaders, concerned citizens and caring members of the greater community.
17cÆð²ÝºìÌÒ’s Early Childhood Education (PK-4) and Special Education (PK-12) Certifications dual major unlocks an unlimited career potential. The program prepares teachers for preschool through Grade 4 and special education teachers in public and private educational institutions. The program is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The dual certification allows program graduates to work as:
• Elementary educators (preschool though Grade 4)
• Special education teachers and learning support specialists (preschool though Grade 12)
in public and private educational institutions.
